Lacrosse Update (May 10, 2026)

The Varsity Girls Lacrosse team finished an outstanding season with a 15-3 overall record, demonstrating resilience and consistency from start to finish. Throughout the year, the team competed at a high level and continued to build on a strong tradition of excellence.

The season culminated in a thrilling championship appearance against crosstown rival, The Hockaday School. In a hard-fought battle that showcased the determination and competitiveness of both teams, the game ultimately went into overtime before ending in a narrow loss. While the result was not the ending the team hoped for, the championship run highlighted the group's grit, leadership, and commitment to one another all season long. The girls program has much to be proud of!

The Varsity Boys Lacrosse team completed another exceptional season, finishing with a 16-4 overall record and advancing to the state semifinals. The team earned key victories and established themselves as one of the top programs in the region, but their playoff journey came to an end in the semifinals against The Woodlands. Despite the tough matchup, the team represented the program well and will look forward to the 2027 season.

On April 22, 2026, our boys' golf team battled to a strong SPC 3A team runner-up finish, with a two-day total of 620, showing consistency and grit through each round. Leading the way was the SPC 3A individual champion, Luke Olive '28, with an outstanding 145, plus a strong tie for ninth from Clay McElree '26 to round out the effort. A complete team performance and a season well played!

From April 30 to May 2, after a tournament schedule that seemed to take a few cues from the weather forecast,  our teams finally got their chance to complete once conditions cleared.

Our baseball team showed strong resilience - taking and holding an early lead against St. Andrew's before advancing, but ultimately falling to Fort Worth Country Day in the semi-finals. The team bounced back in their final game to secure a 3rd place finish, capping off a strong tournament run.

While the overall results didn’t fully reflect their efforts, the track and field team had several bright spots, including a few impressive top finishes from freshmen Lily Fahrenholz, who earned 3rd place in the 3A 1600m and 4th place in the 3A 3200m. Sam Olson '27 finished fifth in the 3A shot put with a distance of over 44'. Nahla Whittier '28 was able to finish 4th in all events: 3A high jump, 100m with a time of 12.44s, and the 200m with a time of 26s. Our girls 4x100m (Jemma Pennington '27, Peyton Smith '29, Gracie Nealon '27, and Nahla Whittier '28) and 4x400m (Gracie Nealon '28, Nahla Whittier '28, Wynne Horton '28, Jemma Pennington '27) both finished 5th.

On the courts, boys' tennis battled a tough, heartbreaking match with John Cooper, ultimately falling short of the win. The girls' tennis team faced off against St. Andrew's, who also finished with a 2-3 loss, bringing their season to an early close.

From May 1-3, Crew had a great weekend in OKC for the USRowing Central Youth Championships as both the girls varsity quad, Maggie Chein '26, Lizze Lett '26, Arden Bowen '26, and Rachel Wang '27, and double, Rachel Wang '27 and Maggie Chein '26, boats placed 3rd, qualifying them for Nationals in June. In addition, the boys' novice double placed first with freshmen, William Chein and Hunter Dossett.

On May 1, Boys Varsity A lacrosse dominated over St. Mark's in the THSLL Class AA Super Regionals game, while the Varsity B team succumbed to Alamo Heights in day two of the THSLL Class B Super Regionals. Girls lacrosse walked away with a 21-6 knockout win over Austin High School in the TGHSLL Division I Super Regionals on May 3.

Our varsity girls quad boat was able to capture the Brides Plate for the second year in a row at the 99th Stotesbury Cup Regatta in Philadelphia this weekend. Congratulations to Maggie Chein '26, Arden Bowen '26, Lizzie Lett '26, and Rachel Wang '27.

REMINDER: Carpool Etiquette

A friendly reminder that ESD operates in the middle of a residential neighborhood, and it is important to drive, park, and walk with this in mind. Please:

  • Put phones down while in the carpool line or driving near campus.
  • Do not U-turn on Merrell or Midway Roads.
  • Do not cut through neighborhood streets.
  • Only queue for carpool on Midway and Merrell Roads; please do not queue on side streets (e.g., Gooding Drive, etc.).
  • Do not block neighborhood streets while in the carpool line.
  • Always follow the direction of the DPD and security officers.
REMINDER: Parent Badges

As a reminder, all parents should wear their parent badges while on campus.

Pondering Purpose and Impact

Summer schedules often provide pockets of time for families to explore new activities, tackle projects, and encourage curiosity. Jordan Grumet, M.D., notes, “Purpose often emerges in moments of flow—when kids are fully absorbed in what they’re doing, losing track of time, and deeply enjoying the process.” Grumet also explains, “Allowing unstructured time nurtures creativity, experimentation, and the discovery of personal passions. These are the building blocks of purpose.”

Pause and Ponder: Projects, Playtime, and Purpose

  • For younger students: What is a project or activity that you are excited about this summer? If you have an entire day at home this summer and no plans, what would you choose to do?
  • For older children, teenagers, and adults: If you had a day to devote to a project or goal, what would you choose to do? When was the last time you experienced a state of flow where you lost track of time and were fully focused? How might you make time this summer to devote to a similar activity?
