Newly admitted rising ninth-graders and their parents are invited to attend ESD's oldest tradition, Pass It On. Established in 1978, the Pass It On ceremony invites the graduating senior class to reverently pass their light, the spirit of ESD, to the incoming freshman class, welcoming them to the upper school. April 29, 2026 If you are a current ESD family of an eighth-grader, you do not need to RSVP. Please check News You Can Use for details as we get closer to the event date. |

Grandparents Day FAQs
| How do I get to campus? What is the address? |
|---|
Valet on Eagle Family Way, formerly Montwood Lane. For GPS use 4100 Montwood Rd, Dallas, TX 75229. |
| When should guests arrive? |
**Due to high volume traffic, especially in the event of adverse weather conditions, please expect and be patient with any valet line delays. There will be ample time to participate in all activities. |
Can I attend the morning session even though I am assigned to the afternoon session? |
You are encouraged to attend the session corresponding to the grandchild’s last name. Please contact Carol Bergman with questions. |
I have grandchildren with the last names in both the morning and afternoon sessions. Which session should I attend? |
You may choose which session to attend with all grandchildren at the same time. |
| Do I attend both sessions? |
No. Grandparents come to either the morning session (for students with last names A-K) or the afternoon session (for students with last names L-Z). |
When will I meet my grandchild(ren)? |
Upon arrival, you will proceed to the Lower School, where you will be directed to your grandchild's homeroom. For grandparents with more than one grandchild, please go to the class of the youngest students first. |
What is the attire? |
Comfortable shoes and attire are encouraged because guests will be walking outside between the valet station and the Lower School building, as well as navigating up and down the stairs in the Lower School. Elevators are also available for those who need assistance. |
Can students arrive with grandparents? |
Students should arrive in carpool at their regular morning drop-off time. |
When can I take a photograph with my grandchild(ren)? |
We will offer two photo stations for your convenience, located in the Ford Family Early Childhood Discovery Commons (Level 1) and the Actors Stage (Level 2). The stations will remain open the entirety of the program, so there will be plenty of time to take a photo with your grandchild(ren). The photographer will not close until everyone’s picture is taken. |
Can I get dropped off instead of using valet? |
Valet is preferred; drop-off is available for those with mobility concerns or using a rideshare option. |
I need physical assistance. Can a family member stay with me to help? |
Absolutely. We also have elevators available for assistance. |
If students don’t have a grandparent attending, should they still come to school? |
Yes! It's a school day, and we're prepared with lessons to keep students actively engaged with learning. |
Can students leave with grandparents? |
Yes, students can leave with their grandparents/friends if their parents complete the permission form on Google Docs before Grandparents Day. |
