Angela and Robert Buchholz’s relationship with The Episcopal School of Dallas began as parents, watching their sons, Sam ’10 and Don ’12, and daughter, Anna, thrive during their time at ESD. From 2006-2011, Robert deepened his connection to the community, serving as a board member and chair of the school’s Finance Committee. In 2011, he was asked to become the school’s Chief Financial Officer, a role for which his experience as both a CPA and a lawyer were assets, leading to a decade of vital and distinguished service to ESD.
The exceptional students and dedicated faculty Robert worked alongside day after day are what truly inspired Angela and Robert to establish The Buchholz Family Endowment to augment the strength of the school's endowment, ensuring a lasting financial foundation for generations to come.
“The appeal of giving to the endowment was immediately clear to us. We see it as a critical way to ensure that resources will be available to future students without disruption,” Robert said. “It’s an investment in the long-term health and stability of the school, guaranteeing that ESD can continue to fulfill its mission long after our time.”
When thinking of the purpose of The Buchholz Family Endowment, we wanted it to have the widest possible impact. We felt it was most important to establish a fund that supports all aspects of the school's mission, providing flexibility to address both current needs and unforeseen challenges. This allows the school to utilize the funds where they are most needed, maximizing their benefit across all programs and initiatives.
“This unrestricted endowment, as it continues to grow over time, makes an important impact on our ability to deliver on the goals of our strategic plan, ESD 2030, and embody ESD’s mission of ‘igniting lives of purpose,’” stated Hobson Family Head of School Dave Baad.
For others considering how to make a meaningful difference, Angela and Robert’s advice is this: endowment funds make a growing impact on a school’s operations, providing both stability and flexibility. Ultimately, endowments form a wonderful and lasting legacy for donors - to forever be a part of The Episcopal School of Dallas.
