Riley Morrison ’26 Prepares to Race in Dallas Marathon after Spinal Fusion Surgery
November 21, 2025
We are immensely proud to celebrate the extraordinary journey of Riley Morrison ’26, a 17-year-old student who has exemplified the grace and resilience required to overcome physical adversity.
Less than two years ago, Riley underwent major spinal surgery at Scottish Rite for Children to correct severe scoliosis, a procedure that stabilized her spine with two metal rods and 15 screws. For months, recovery meant carefully relearning how to move without pain, transforming her approach to movement and strength.
But for Riley, this challenge was merely the starting line for a much larger goal. Inspired by her father, she gradually took up running, progressing from a single mile to a full half-marathon in an astonishingly short period of time.
Now, Riley is preparing for the ultimate test of endurance: running the BMW Dallas Marathon. Her participation is more than just a race; it is a powerful, inspiring demonstration of her ability to accomplish the biggest goals she sets for herself.
To discover how Riley went from recovering from spinal fusion to training for a full marathon in such a short time, and to read the full account of her inspiring journey, please visit the original press coverage.
