Our Time to Soar: Angelique and Ray Waddell Invest in Middle School Leadership - The Episcopal School of Dallas | Best Private Schools in Dallas

February 17, 2026

For the Waddell family, the decision to support The Episcopal School of Dallas grew out of their admiration for the school’s leadership and its mission of igniting lives of purpose. By establishing the Angelique and Ray Waddell Family Endowment, the Waddells are investing in the framework of excellence that permeates ESD. They believe that the most effective way to prepare students for the complexities of the world is to provide them with a solid foundation during their most formative years.

In alignment with ESD’s strategic vision, Angelique and Ray chose an impactful philanthropic path: endowing the Head of Middle School position currently held by Jonathan Chein. Sustaining a sound footing, particularly during the transition from childhood to young adulthood, the leadership of the Middle School plays a defining role. By endowing this position, the Waddell family is ensuring that ESD can always attract and retain the highest caliber of educational leadership.

“Establishing a ‘best in class’ standard in all areas of the ESD experience—faculty, student leadership, academics, and supporting our alumni—is what gets us excited about our endowment gift," says Ray. An endowed position is a permanent pillar of the institution. By endowing the leadership of ESD’s Middle School, the Waddells are ensuring that the guidance for student development remains steady, anchored in the school’s mission.

"Using strong Christian values to prepare and shepherd students, during each phase of their educational journey, is what makes the ESD community special," Angelique and Ray shared. "Our family was inspired to give because of the intentionality with which ESD equips kids to become confident leaders here and throughout their lives.”

“Investing in the Head of Middle School position reaffirms that these formative years are a top priority at ESD,” noted Jonathan Chein. ”I am proud to lead our talented Middle School team as we help students navigate the social, emotional, and academic complexities unique to this stage of the educational journey.”

When asked what they would say to others considering a similar path, Angelique and Ray’s response is simple: connection. "Get involved," they encourage. "Learn more about ESD’s vision, the mission, and—most importantly—the people. By being engaged, no matter how big or small, you see how these leaders shape our children’s lives. The decision to support the school becomes clear."
