Kate Lewis '27 Nominated for Prestigious Broadway Award

Last week, the energy at the Upper School reached a fever pitch when Upper School Acting Instructor and Performing Arts Department Chair, Mrs. Lauren Redmond ’01, took the podium to announce that one of our Eagles had been nominated for a Broadway High School Musical Theater Award!
For Kate Lewis ’27, the news was a “pinch-me” moment that left her ecstatic. Nominated for Outstanding Supporting Performance for her role as the formidable Widow Corney in our recent production of Oliver!, she is now preparing to take her talents to the regional stage.
Balancing the Spotlight
Success in the arts rarely happens in a vacuum. For Kate, the road to the nomination was a masterclass in time management. Between the intensity of the lacrosse field and the precision of competition cheer, she spent her afternoons rushing from practices to rehearsals.
“It was stressful at times,” she admitted, “but it was motivating knowing that when I got to rehearsal, I had to work my hardest because time was of the essence. Working with this cast was nothing short of a joy.”
That dedication translated into a powerhouse performance. As Widow Corney, she brought a “sassy and pompous” energy to the stage, citing the comedic duet “I Shall Scream” as her favorite moment of the show.
While the nomination honors her recent performance, the achievement is deeply personal. For a student who has been singing and performing since she was a child, this recognition from a professional organization like Broadway is the ultimate validation.
“In achieving this award, I feel like I have really made my younger self proud,” Lewis shared. “I’m thrilled to get to spend the next six weeks living my ten-year-old self’s dream!”

The Broadway High School Musical Theater Awards ceremony is designed to mimic the Tony Awards, featuring professional-grade production numbers and performances from all the nominees.
Over the next six weeks, Kate will undergo an intensive rehearsal process alongside the most talented student performers in the region. We are incredibly proud of her hard work, versatility as a student-athlete, and passion for our theater department.
