Grogan Family Endowment for Foreign Travel Takes Flight - The Episcopal School of Dallas | Best Private Schools in Dallas

October 14, 2025

Longtime ESD community members Whitney and Jay Grogan P’24 have consistently supported the school with their time, talent, and generosity. Inspired by the leadership of Hobson Family Head of School Dave Baad and his strategic vision, ESD 2030, the Grogans were motivated to make a significant gift and update to their family’s endowment fund.

The newly renamed Grogan Family Endowment for Foreign Travel is a notable outcome of the Our Time to Soar campaign. This endowment offers critical resources to ensure that every student, regardless of their financial background, has the opportunity to participate in international travel and programs.

“What is most exciting about our campaign is that we can already see the impact it has had toward enhancing the people and programs in our community. Extending beyond the classroom allows us to ensure that every student has the opportunity to enjoy the full experience of what it means to be an ESD student,” states Dave Baad. “Importantly, these proceeds ensure students have the opportunity to enjoy a richer educational program that in turn allows them to become their best selves.”

"Not all students have the same resources or the same opportunities," explained the Grogans. "We believe that exposure to other countries and cultures is critical to a complete education, and we want all students, regardless of need, to have that opportunity if they seek it. Every student should have the opportunity to experience other places in the world, and money shouldn’t be the reason they can’t."

Whitney and Jay were especially inspired by ESD’s dynamic leadership. "Our goal is to support the growth and enhancement of Dave’s vision for ESD," they shared. "We are excited to grow our family’s endowment to ensure our gift just keeps on giving!" This generous contribution will significantly enhance the school's ability to offer a robust and equitable educational experience, fostering students who are ready to thrive in a diverse world.

When asked for advice to inspire others, Jay Grogan simply said, "Consider your own good fortune and then consider the needs of others."

Our Time to Soar - a Campaign for The Episcopal School of Dallas is inspired by the strategic plan ESD 2030, which aims to add significantly to the school’s endowment, all as further investment in ESD’s people and programs. To date, the ESD community is responding in incredibly generous ways, and we are well along the path to a successful $50,000,000 campaign. Leadership giving opportunities remain, as do opportunities at all levels, to join in support.
