ESD Student Publications Shine in National Awards Season
May 7, 2025
It’s a season of celebration for The Episcopal School of Dallas’ student publications, which have brought home a remarkable collection of awards from some of the most prestigious journalism organizations in the country. Recognized for their excellence, creativity, and dedication, Eagle Edition, Itinerary, and Carillon have all earned top honors for their work during the 2023–2024 school year.
Leading the pack, Eagle Edition, ESD’s student-run newspaper, soared to success with a Gold Crown from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association (CSPA)—the highest distinction awarded. It also clinched a Pacemaker Award from the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA), one of scholastic journalism’s most coveted honors, following a nod as a Pacemaker Finalist. On the state level, the paper received a Silver Star from the Interscholastic League Press Conference (ILPC), further cementing its role as a standout publication.
Itinerary, ESD’s literary-art magazine, also made waves, earning a Silver Crown from CSPA and a Pacemaker Finalist title from NSPA. The magazine continues to impress with its vibrant showcase of student creativity, blending art and writing in powerful and imaginative ways.
Meanwhile, Carillon, the school’s yearbook, was named a Pacemaker Finalist by NSPA and awarded a Silver Star by ILPC. Celebrating the spirit and memories of the school year, Carillon continues to capture the heart of the ESD community with style and sophistication.
These honors are a testament to the passion, talent, and relentless work ethic of ESD’s student journalists and publication staff. Their success can also be attributed to the leadership of Heather Cernoch, Upper School English teacher, Itinerary and Aquillae Sponsor, and Ana Rosenthal, journalism teacher, yearbook and newspaper advisor. Behind every byline, layout, and deadline are students dedicated to telling stories that matter—with integrity, creativity, and care.
“We are so proud of what our students have accomplished,” said one of the publication’s sponsors, Heather Cernoch. “Each award represents hours of thoughtful writing, careful editing, bold design, and collaboration. These students truly earned this recognition.”
Congratulations to all of our incredible student journalists, editors, artists, and photographers. ESD is proud of your accomplishments—and excited to see what you’ll create next!
