Engineering Excellence: ESD Shines at TSA State Competition

At The Episcopal School of Dallas, the pursuit of excellence often leads our students to the intersection of rigorous logic and creative problem-solving. This February, our Upper School Technology Student Association (TSA) students demonstrated exactly that as they competed in the annual state-level TEAMS (Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics, and Science) competition.
Facing off against 68 teams from across Texas—representing both public and independent schools—our students showcased their prowess in a series of grueling STEM challenges. The competition is a comprehensive test of a student’s versatility, requiring mastery in four distinct components: a collaborative Essay, a hands-on Design/Build challenge, a technical multiple-choice exam, and complex Mathematical Modeling.
The results speak to the dedication and intellectual curiosity of our Eagles. In the written portion of the event, Team A (Parker Ellis ‘27, Gabby Aston ‘28, and Maanya Jyothinagaram ‘27) earned a distinguished 5th-place ranking in the state for their essay, with Team B (Bella Tremblay ‘27 and Maddy Fisher ‘27) following closely with a 9th-place finish.
In the technical arenas, our students truly soared. Team D (Michael Peralta ‘26, Harrison Adams ‘26, Leo Chang ‘28, and Jeffery Fu ‘27) showcased their mastery of physics and calculus-based engineering problems, outscoring competitors in the multiple-choice exam. Meanwhile, Team C (Hunter Henderson ‘28, Thomas Rohovsky ‘28, and Luke Crowhurst ‘28) displayed exceptional ingenuity in the Design and Build challenge.
"All four teams represented ESD with such integrity and brilliance," shared TSA Sponsor Tanya Snook. "The collaborative spirit they brought to these challenges is a testament to the strength of our STEM program."
The journey doesn't end at the state line. Based on their exceptional combined scores, Teams C and D have placed among the top teams nationally. This prestigious ranking earns them an invitation to represent ESD on the national stage at the 2026 National TEAMS Competitions. Our students will travel to Washington, D.C., this June to compete for Best-in-Nation honors during the National TSA Conference.
