An Odyssey Toward The Episcopal School of Dallas' Homecoming - The Episcopal School of Dallas | Best Private Schools in Dallas

From the moment student leaders transformed the campus into scenes worthy of ancient legend, The Episcopal School of Dallas (ESD) knew this year’s Homecoming week would be one for the history books. Inspired by the classic work and 2026 film adaptation, "The Odyssey," ESD spent the week celebrating connection, tradition, and school spirit.

The adventure began on Tuesday of Homecoming week as campus embraced "Myths and Monsters." After a spirited Chapel talk filled with trivia led by Upper School History teacher Adam Walsh, students and faculty gathered in the Competition Gym for the "Journey Through Ithaca," a playful obstacle course where participants navigated cones and a handcrafted cardboard Trojan Horse. The afternoon brought a sweet reward as a soft-serve ice cream truck arrived at lunch, setting a joyful tone for the days ahead.

Wednesday’s "Lost at Sea" theme ushered in a moment of pure artistry. During Chapel, the choir delivered a hauntingly beautiful "Siren Song" musical offering straight out of the movie, setting the stage for the "Bow and Show Your TALONt" talent showcase, where Eagles took the stage to cheer on their peers’ extraordinary gifts.

The energy reached a crescendo on Thursday with "Gods and Goddesses." A special schedule made way for some of the week's most cherished outdoor traditions. The community gathered by the water for the iconic Ithaca Olympics Race, followed by a picnic lunch under the sunshine. The excitement continued during the "Battle of Troy," where classes faced off in a spirited tournament that had the entire crowd cheering from the sidelines.

By Friday, homecoming spirit echoed across every corner of campus. The day opened with the sacred unity of the All School Convocation in Stoffel Commons, an opening ceremony that united the entire campus and affirmed the school’s Episcopal Identity. This tradition shifted into the high-octane enthusiasm of the Pep Rally, building students' spirit for the evening’s Community Picnic and Homecoming Varsity Football Game.

In Homer's epic, Odysseus spent ten long years finding his way back to Ithaca. For the Eagles, the journey took just one week, but it carried the same heart. Whether navigating a cardboard Trojan Horse, gathering in worship as one school for the All School Convocation, or cheering together under the Friday night lights, students, faculty, and families were reminded that Homecoming is ultimately about returning to the people and the place that feel like home.
