Our September series celebrating alumni who've returned to ESD as full-time faculty and staff continues with Chloé Williams '19, Early Childhood Spanish Teacher and JV Cheerleading Assistant Coach — who now teaches the very subject, and coaches the very sport, she once studied and played as a student herself.
Full-Circle Moments
For Chloé, coming back to ESD as an employee has meant experiencing the school from an entirely new vantage point.
I get to teach Spanish at the same school where I was once a Spanish student, coach cheer after cheering here myself, and work alongside many of the teachers who taught me," she says. "It's really special to have so many full-circle moments at a place that played such a big role in my own life.
That full-circle experience shapes how she thinks about purpose. "Purpose means using your gifts, experiences, and opportunities in a way that positively impacts the people around you," she says. "I think purpose can show up in both big and small ways, and often through the relationships we build and the way we choose to serve and care for others."
As a student, she was surrounded by teachers and coaches who invested in her and helped her grow — and now, she says, "coming back to ESD as an adult has given me the opportunity to do the same for my own students and athletes."
The ESD Foundation: The People and the Program
For Chloé, the highlights of her ESD experience were defined by people and by the range of things she got to be part of: serving as varsity cheer captain, participating in the film program, and taking Spanish V with Señora Garcini. Through film, she attended the ISAS Arts Festival and the All American High School Film Festival in New York — experiences she still counts among her favorite high school memories. She also served on the Honor Council.
The relationships I built and experiences I had at ESD have stayed with me and continue to influence the kind of teacher and coach I hope to be for my own students," she says.
Her favorite ESD tradition is the Homecoming pep rally and football game.

Purpose: The People, Hands Down
When asked about the best part of working at ESD, Chloé's answer is immediate: "The people, hands down."
Outside of ESD, Chloé enjoys spending time with family and friends, reading, staying active, and serving in her community.
