Celebrating Female Diversity: ESD Receives College Board Computer Science Female Diversity Award - The Episcopal School of Dallas | Best Private Schools in Dallas

February 3, 2025

College Board AP has recognized The Episcopal School of Dallas for achieving high female representation in AP Computer Science Principles (CSP) and presented with the Computer Science Female Diversity Award.

During the 2023-24 school year, ESD reached 50% or higher in female representation in one of the two AP computer science courses or achieved a percentage of female computer science exam takers, meeting that of the school’s female population. ESD is one of only 847 schools nationwide to receive this recognition.

“We are thrilled to receive the distinction from the College Board celebrating the female representation in our AP Computer Science (CS) program. Our young ladies are trailblazers, and we’re so proud of all of the ways they celebrate and spread their passion and interest with others,” said Associate Chief Academic Officer Lindsey Cullins. “They are participating in competitions, leading CS community service outreach, interning for CS companies, building and leading Ed-tech, CS, and Engineering clubs. Our ladies are igniting the fire of the next generation through their partnerships with summer programs and their support of the GEARS program. Congratulations to our ladies and Dr. Charles Lena, Upper School Computer Science Teacher. We’re proud of our Eagles!”

According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, women represent 26.9% of the 6.5 million people in computer and mathematical occupations. College Board AP suggests that female students who take AP CSP in high school are more than five times as likely to major in computer science in college. However, female students remain underrepresented in the computer science field nationwide.

ESD continues to promote female representation in all areas of our STEM curriculum across all three divisions. We are honored and encouraged by this recognition and look forward to continuing our work. Congratulations to our innovative female students and the dedicated STEM Faculty and Staff that support and encourage them every day. Way to go, Eagles!
