SHADOW VISIT INFORMATION


We encourage applicants interested in Grades five through 11 to spend half a day at ESD through the Shadow Visit Program. Each visiting student will accompany a current Eagle and attend three classes, Chapel, meet faculty members, have lunch in the dining commons, and experience a typical day at The Episcopal School of Dallas.To sign up for a Half-Day Shadow Visit, go to the "Schedule Student Interview" step in your applicationWe look forward to meeting you during your visit. Please read the following information carefully in advance of your day at The Episcopal School of Dallas.



MIDDLE SCHOOL VISITS

  • Visiting students are to arrive at 8:00 a.m. (Admission staff available beginning at 7:45 a.m.). The first class period begins at 8:15 a.m.
  • Visiting students are to enter through the main school doors at 4100 Merrell Road and report to the Office of Admission, where they are paired with their student host. Please plan to enter Gate #3 by the security booth. If Gate #3 is blocked for carpool, you may proceed to Gate #4 and park anywhere in the main parking lot, including parent/visitor spots.
  • Please bring a book to read in class in the event of a test or quiz.
  • Lunch will be provided.
  • Fifth, sixth and seventh-grade applicants may bring a change of clothes in the event they attend a P.E. class during their visit and would like to participate.
  • Please note that phones are no longer allowed for Middle School students. If your child needs to bring a phone, they may leave it in the Office of Admission.
  • The interview portion of the visit will take place at 12:45 p.m. with an ESD faculty or staff member.
  • Fifth and sixth-grade applicants will be paired with current fifth-grade students; Seventh-grade applicants are paired with current sixth-graders and eighth-grade applicants are paired with current seventh-graders.
  • The visit will conclude at 1:00 p.m. You may pick up your child in the Office of Admission.


UPPER SCHOOL VISITS

  • There are two Half-Day Shadow Visit options available for Upper School applicants: 8:10 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (interview occurs before the visit begins) or 8:30 a.m. - 1:15 p.m. (interview occurs at the end of the visit). The first class period begins at 8:45 a.m.
  • Visiting students are to enter through the main school doors at 4100 Merrell Road and report to the Office of Admission, where they are paired with their student host. Please plan to enter Gate #3 by the security booth. If Gate #3 is blocked for carpool, you may proceed to Gate #4 and park anywhere in the main parking lot, including parent/visitor spots.
  • Please bring a book to read in class in the event of a test or quiz. Upper School students are allowed to carry their phones but they will be asked to check them in as the enter classrooms.
  • Lunch will be provided.
  • Ninth and tenth-grade applicants are paired with current ninth-graders. Eleventh-grade applicants are paired with current tenth-graders.
  • The visit will conclude at 1:00 p.m. or 1:15 p.m. depending on your visit selection. You may pick up your child in the Office of Admission.


DRESS CODE

  • Nice casual is the general rule for ESD dress standards. Students may also wear their current school uniform, if applicable.
  • Students are discouraged from wearing jeans, cargo pants, or sweatpants.
  • Students are to wear comfortable dress shoes or gym shoes.


IMPORTANT INFORMATION

  • Because of our six-day (Middle School) and seven-day (Upper School) rotating schedules, we cannot always accommodate special requests for class preference.
  • All shadow hosts are thoughtfully paired with your applicant in an attempt to make them feel at ease in our community. There is an opportunity on the application to share your child's interests in an effort to best pair our hosts with our applicants.
