MyESD: A TRIBUTE TO THE ESD EXPERIENCE
Seniors in the Class of 2019 are sharing some of their top learning experiences. No doubt, a difficult choice!
In 2018, seniors offered their favorite spots around campus.
Check back each week for a new post!
TOP LEARNING EXPERIENCE: Football Games
I came to ESD as a Junior, and from the moment I stepped foot on campus I have always felt included in the community. The faculty and students come together always as one unit which is really cool to see. My favorite memory from ESD was the Friday night football games. As a cheerleader, it was amazing to see a whole community come out and cheer on our Eagles together. I am really going to miss my ESD family next year.
TOP LEARNING EXPERIENCE: Fab Lab
The Fab Lab at ESD gives me access to tools and supplies to get ideas out of my head and into the real world. Right now, the Maker Club is using the space to build an augmented reality sandbox that projects simulated land onto the sand.
TOP LEARNING EXPERIENCE: Mrs. Salz's English Class
I have had Mrs. Salz for two years in a row and she has helped me grow as a student. In her class we focus on writing and skills we will use for college. Mrs. Salz genuinely cares for not only us as students, but accepts us as individuals. Not only is she a great teacher, but the table in her room promotes a discussion based class.
TOP LEARNING EXPERIENCE: Studio Art Class
One of my favorite ESD experiences has been Intro to Studio Art with Mr. Weiss. I am very passionate about art and the opportunity it poses for jobs. Being in his class has challenged me and helped me grow as an artist. His class was a nice break in the day where I could be creative and have fun. I enjoyed making new friends and learned a lot from them creatively.
TOP LEARNING EXPERIENCE: Fishing in the Quarry
Fishing in the quarry really became popular my sophomore year. It was a great way to take a break from the business of the school day, catch up with friends, and enjoy the beautiful quarry here on campus. It was so great to have time to fish, a hobby of mine that I usually didn't I have much time for because of schoolwork. I was even able to make some new friends, and we would meet every Friday morning, before school, to go fishing.
TOP LEARNING EXPERIENCE: Spring Musicals
I would have to say my favorite ESD experiences have been all of the spring musicals. The high school spring musicals are great bonding experiences. As a senior, I have gotten to know all of my classmates fairly well but the musical is what has really brought me close to those I was not as familiar with throughout middle school and high school. Finally as a senior this year I have the honor of playing the starring role as “Jo” in Little Women. It’s been a long ride and it’s my last hoorah but it’s already been one for the books. ESD as a whole has always been my family, but the arts department at ESD is comprised of long-lasting, deep kinships that will last even after graduation.
TOP LEARNING EXPERIENCE: SINGING IN CHAPEL
I love singing and choir gives me an outlet to not only pursue my passion but create beautiful music with people I love. My favorite activity with choir is singing in chapel everyday. It is a time where I can relax from the chaos of the school day.
TOP LEARNING EXPERIENCE: World Cultures Class
My freshman year world cultures class was my favorite class at ESD because it encourages the sharing of everyone’s conflicting opinions. Not only would we learn about different cultures but also discuss them in detail. It was a great preparation for the rest of my high school experience.
TOP LEARNING EXPERIENCE: Homecoming Pep Rally
My favorite experience was our Homecoming pep rally at the Gene and Jerry Jones Family Stadium this year. A drum line, the cheerleaders, football players, and ESD wingmen led the whole school out to the football field for the pep rally. It was our first pep rally ever that was outdoors and that also included the middle school students. The whole school had so much fun together and it was really special!
TOP LEARNING EXPERIENCE: Varsity Soccer
One of my favorite experiences at ESD was becoming part of the Varsity Soccer team my freshman year. As a new member, the entire team made me feel part of the soccer family. I remember how James McElroy, David Kerrigan and Jake Colonnetta were extremely encouraging when I was stepping on the field. I am grateful that Coach Garner gave me this opportunity. Since then, I always play my hardest on the field.
