One of the best ways to keep students reading over the summer is to take full advantage of the reading programs available to children. There are programs all over the city, including the Dallas Public Library, Highland Park Library, University Park Library, and Richardson Library. In addition, try your local Barnes and Noble or Half Price Books.

One of the best things about the library is sharing the excitement over something you just read. Students have two ways to do that over the summer. Option one is to mail in postcards where they write a little about the book and provide an illustration or two about their favorite part(s) of the books they read Students will also have the opportunity to use a service called Flipgrid where they can post 90 second videos talking about books they're reading and enjoying/books they recommend to their friends.

Summer is also the perfect time to get a jump start on reading books for the Flying Angel and Bluebonnet reading programs. Please refer to the Library course on Schoology or the library section of the website for more information on these two optional reading programs.
