The Importance of Hospitality

Faculty Author: Mrs. Fahrenbrook, Assistant Head of Middle School

Mrs. Wabrek gave a chapel talk on 'hospitality' and shared stories of her Granny and how she exemplifies hospitality. She talked about the founder and owner of Shake Shack and his restaurant philosophy of “enlightened hospitality.” He says, “Hospitality, as I define it, is very simple. It all comes down to one preposition - "for". If you feel like the other guy did something for you, that's hospitality."

She also baked cookies for all Middle School students, using her Granny's recipe, as an example of being hospitable!

Then we had a tour of 'An Enduring Legacy: The Eugene and Margaret McDermott Collection of Impressionist and Modern Art' at the Dallas Museum of Art. Our docent was Susan Fisk, an ESD mom of two alumni. Today, French club had pétanque and French food set up in the quarry for all to enjoy!

English Activities

Student Author: Penelope North '21

During Honors English II, we have been working on drafting and revising Literary Analysis essays. One day in class, we walked around the track as a part of an engaging activity. We would walk a lap and talk about our ideas, then sit down and write everything we just talked through. Today, we spent our time near the Library rather than in a classroom. We posted our essays on the windows anonymously and everyone would peer edit. English this year has been a very engaging class, and I truly have learned a lot from it.
