SJES 8th Grade Visit

Student Author: Clayton Mulford '19

Today, St. John's 8th graders came to visit the Upper School campus and tour various classes. Pictured here is a handful of 8th graders in Mr. Larsen's sculpture class receiving a presentation from Freshmen, Sophomores, Juniors and a Senior. The high schoolers represented each sculpture class offered at ESD - from Intro to 3D Design to Sculpture II and all the way to AP 3D Design! The SJES students then enjoyed cookies in the courtyard before heading back to school. Thanks for coming to visit!

College Dance Day

Student Author: Mackenzie Fain-Parish '19

Dance at ESD can be taken in Middle and Upper School. In Middle School, dance can be one of the Fine Arts rotations chosen. In addition to rotations, there is an Honors Dance Program, which allows students to continue dancing outside of their rotation. They meet after school throughout the school year. In Upper School, dance can count as either a Fine Arts credit or an Athletics credit. We meet four days out of the week at 7:30 in the morning. Ms. Dawson teaches ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, and modern/contemporary. She also invites guest choreographers to come in and teach us combinations. Back in September, a choreographer came in and taught us a jazz-funk combination! This picture is from College Dance Day which took place at Collin College. We took two classes in the morning, one in the afternoon and then finished the day with a small showcase with students from participating schools and Collin College.

Cards for Jacob

Student Authors: Middle Schoolers

We are spreading the Christmas cheer in November! Today during Flex, we wanted to help make cards for Jacob, a sick boy in the hospital who Mr. Jenkins spoke about in Chapel today.  It makes us happy knowing that we are going to make someone else happy! Jacob's motto is "Live life like a penguin" - what a great motto to live by! We are so excited to share holiday cheer with Jacob!

Seventh Grade Reader's Theater

Student Authors: Seventh Grade Theater Students

The power of words makes the pictures and stories really come to life. The shrieks from the audience made me happy on our ghost story show day! Reader's Theater is so fun.

Thriller Flash Mob Fun!

Student Authors: Tessa '25 and Jess '25

This quarter, we did a "Thriller Flash Mob" in dance class and it was crazy. It took our class only 3 days to learn the dance. We thought it would be easy to perform at lunch because we performed in front of each other during class, but it was much harder than we thought. There was so many people and I knew a lot of them. I could not stop laughing. I laughed so hard that I was barely able to dance. It was a fun time and I can't wait to see what else we do in dance class! We really appreciate all the amazing opportunities we get during our electives. In dance, you get to push yourself to learn lots of new choreography and test your courage during the performance. “The Thriller Flash Mob” was an example of one of the many great things we get to do in dance class under the guidance of Ms. Dawson. It was so much fun showing our classmates a bit of what we have already accomplished during our time at dance class.

Honorary Wingman!

Student Author: William '25

I'm so lucky that my Senior Buddy is a Wingman. For Homecoming, the Seniors who are Wingmen invited their Fifth-grade buddies and we got to run across the field right before the game.  It was an awesome experience being able to do such a fun thing!

First Seeds of the Season!

Student Author: Mackenzie Fain-Parish '19

This week the Botany Club planted our first seeds of the season. We planted lettuce, carrots, radishes, and peas. Ms. Neill's Fifth-grade classes are partnering with us and helping maintain the plants. In addition to this project, we plan to start restoring the Butterfly Garden.

Middle School Down Time

Student Author: Hannah Nwakibu '19

Every day, the Middle School students get some down time from their long day at school. They are allowed to run around and play on the beautiful campus. Some kids enjoys throwing the ball around while others just sit and chat and catch up with one another. It’s a great time to relax and enjoy the outdoors!
