Last week's production of Little Women featured amazing song, dance, and costumes - but did you notice the quotes written on set? Both the elaborate turntable and the stairs featured quotes from the original novel that represent key themes in the production.
"Since this was a show based on a book and since the main character is a writer, I wanted to take quotes from the novel and wanted to put them on stage," said Lauren Redmond '01, Technical Director and Technical Theater Instructor. "The idea was that we were looking into Jo's journal since she's writing throughout the show. At the end of the musical, she's taken experiences from her life and her family's lives and translated it to the page for her story."
TURNTABLE - "I want to do something splendid before I go into my castle, something heroic or wonderful that won't be forgotten after I'm dead. I don't know what, but I'm on the watch for it and mean to astonish you all someday."
STAIRS - "I do think that families are the most beautiful things in all the world." and "I don't like to doze by the fire. I like adventures and I'm going to find some."
