ESD's Eagle Edition was awarded the Pacemaker Award, one of the highest awards given in scholastic journalism. Eagle Edition was one of 28 papers in the nation and London to have this honor this year. Editors of the 2017-18 edition were Kathleen Hobson '18 and Julia Beckel '18.
Each year, the National Scholastic Press Association presents the Pacemaker in different categories for each type of publication – online, newspaper, yearbook, magazine and broadcast. Entries are judged by teams of professionals based on the following criteria: coverage and content, quality of writing and reporting, leadership, design, photography, and graphics. "This is a huge honor and accomplishment," said Head of Upper School Henry Heil. "It speaks to the strength of our program and the talent of our young journalists. There's a bright future ahead."
Eagle Edition also placed third out of ten in Best of Show for their most recent issue, "The Sober Truth." This award takes into consideration the design and writing of a recent issue. Around 60 newspapers compete in best of show nationally. The editors for the 2018-19 issue are Madison Willox '19 and Anastasia Sotiropoulos '19.
Finally, Amanda Warren '18 placed second for Sports Story of the Year for last year's piece on fantasy football.
"It took a lot of hard work to get to this point. Too many late hours to count," said journalism advisor DiAngelea Millar. "Our staff continues to grow in size and strength and we can't wait to see how we do next year as we continue to strive to cover this community effectively, design beautifully and write scholastically."
Congratulations to Eagle Edition for these outstanding achievements!
