Extra, extra - read all about it!
ESD's student led newspaper, Eagle Edition, is a finalist for NSPA's prestigious Pacemaker award! The Pacemaker award is presented annually by the National Scholastic Press Association (NSPA) and recognizes publications based on quality of writing, coverage, leadership, and design. Of the 260 school applicants, Eagle Edition was one of 67 finalists. The full list of finalists, as well as the official announcement from NSPA, can be found here.
Angie Millar, Publications Adviser for the newspaper, is proud of her students' success. "It was a year with a lot of growth and I was blessed to have two strong EICs," she said, referring to Editors-In-Chief Julia Beckel '18 and Kathleen Hobson '18. This is the first award under Millar's advisement - and hopefully the first of many! Millar will travel to Chicago for the November JEA/NSPA conference to present two sessions: Journalism School and the Making of a Career and Column Writing: Back It Up.
This is the Eagle Edition's first time as a finalist for the Pacemaker award. The newspaper was also awarded the Gold Crown Award by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association in 2017. Keep up the good work, Eagles!
