Sky Watch February 2018

Big temperature swings in January, but typical Texas: teens to 60s!?

Here are some good things to look for right now:

Evenings:

Winter stars are at their best: Orion and friends...Venus will join them as an evening star in the west, late in the month.

No full moon in February, but Full Moon/Blue Moon the morning of January 31. Eclipse visible right around 6:30-7:00 a.m.!

Two again in March.

Mornings:

Spring stars are up in the mornings. Before sunrise, you can see Arcturus straight overhead. Jupiter is the brightest object, high in the south trailing  the star Spica. Mars is close behind, with Saturn low in the south east along the plane of the ecliptic.

Quarry:

Water is low and clear........Cooper's Hawks are around, with ducks hiding on the Quarry below!

Hundreds of little Cedar Waxwings fill the air, looking for berries almost every day! (pictured above)

Head outside and take a look......
