As the designs are finalized for the new Lower School, The Episcopal School of Dallas is excited to reveal the Community Staircase made possible by a generous $2,000,000 gift from Maleiah and Ryan Rogers.
"ESD's academic rigor, fused with daily worship in a co-ed environment, is exactly what we wanted for our daughter's education," said the Rogers. "We want ESD to continue to improve and attract the best faculty and students."
The staircase, which lies in the heart of the building, is much more than a simple thoroughfare. It is a unique, multi-use feature originating on the second floor. Here, the entire Lower School, Beginner through fourth grade and their teachers, can gather for a performance or presentation, and students may collaborate or work in groups of various sizes.
"From the onset of the design process, it was imperative to our teachers that every inch of our new Lower School be leveraged for teaching and learning," said Chelle Wabrek, Head of Lower School. "The Community Staircase is the result of their brainstorming with our architects and unwavering commitment to best possible learning and teaching outcomes."
The collaborations between Lower School faculty, educational thought leaders, design thinking experts, and our architects have been ongoing for several years. Each space in the new Lower School has been designed to optimally challenge and inspire our students and teachers. "We are so fortunate to be able to build around delivering the best possible educational experience and programming rather than retrofitting ourselves within existing walls," continued Wabrek. "I am thankful and proud of the teachers and professionals involved, and incredibly grateful to the many families, including the Rogers, whose gifts will serve ESD students for generations to come."
The Rogers believe the Lower School will fortify the community and ESD's ability to ignite lives of purpose, "The Lower School being on the same campus helps ESD build a stronger community that attracts and retains the very best faculty and administration."
The Episcopal School of Dallas hopes to break ground on the new Lower School later this spring so that the doors may open to students and teachers for the 2019-20 school year. To date, more than $31,000,000 has been raised towards the $36,500,000 Lower School goal.
The Campaign for The Episcopal School of Dallas was publicly announced on September 22, 2017. It has three priorities: increasing the endowment for greater sustainability, uniting the community on one campus by building a new Lower School, and affirming today's educational experience through the Annual Fund.
