Emma Viquez ’19 spent Thursday through Saturday rehearsing and performing in the TPSMEA All State Choir, a 160-voice ensemble featuring the best singers from over 70 private schools in Texas.
The event was held at the Renaissance Hotel and Eisemann Center, where the choir participated in the long-standing tradition of performing in the hotel atrium before lunch on Saturday. Viquez and the rest of the All State Choir sang “That Which Remains,” a song with music by Andrea Ramsey and words by Helen Keller (from “The Open Door” in 1957) during both the hotel atrium performance and official TPSMEA performance. The song itself has a beautiful message, and a snippet of the song has been provided below.
“What we have once enjoyed we can never lose. A sunset, a mountain bathed in moonlight, the ocean in calm and in storm - - we see these, love their beauty, hold the vision to our hearts. All that we love deeply becomes a part of us. Our beloved ones are no more lost to us when they die than if they were still laughing and working and playing at our side. Truly, life is overlord of Death and Love can never lose its own.”
Congratulations to Emma and all participating students in the TPSMEA All State Choir!
