ESD’s swim team, which has just three swimmers on the roster, may be small but they are a force to be reckoned with!
Grace Knudson ’21, Isabella Pfister ’20, and Jackson Mechem ’19 (pictured on the right during a swim meet last spring) all competed in a swim meet last weekend and held their own amidst 23 other schools. Their times easily qualified them for SPC in numerous events, and they will be competing in their choice of two events next month.
This achievement for all three student-athletes is particularly impressive, as they each competed in other sports during the fall season and have only recently returned to swimming full-time last month. Their training is in good hands moving forward, as they have found a faculty sponsor in ESD’s Mathematics and Computational Thinking Department Chair, Maggie Ferris. Ferris swam for Division III college Kalamazoo and in 2015 she was inducted into the Athletic Hall of Fame at Kalamazoo for her athletic achievements in swimming.
“I have always been passionate about swimming, and continued to compete well into my adult years,” says Ferris. “Now that our swimmers have been training for some time, I am excited to see the results of the next meet and SPC.”
The next meet will be held at Greenhill this coming Saturday, January 27. Good luck to our student-athletes this weekend!
