Four freshmen science students have just been awarded for their group lab experiment by the Biological Sciences Curriculum Study (BSCS). The group, comprised of Ellie Bass '21, Ally Jeter '21, Reed Landin '21, and Monse Rodriguez '21, had their experiment chosen as one of only 14 projects out of 815 submitted worldwide.
The project, which concluded their BSCS curriculum on "The Power of Sunlight," focused on photosynthesis, specifically whether or not the temperature of a plant affects the production of O2 during photosynthesis.
"What makes this curriculum unique is that students get to work online with actual plant scientists as they come up with a scientific question, and then design and run their own experiment based on the advice and feedback," says Mr. Gallo, the group's Upper School science teacher.
Mr. Gallo has taught his freshman biology classes this particular curriculum for the last two years, and appreciates the hands-on inquiry methods, like teacher lab demonstrations and student lab experimentation, that it employs.
Congratulations to our students on your big achievement!
