ESD freshman and varsity Eagles football player Kenneth Borders ’21 made a big impact in the high school sports world this past weekend. The US Under 16 National Football Team played Mexico last Friday night in the International Bowl at AT&T Stadium and defeated them 50-0.
Borders, who was selected to be a member of the US National Team after attending their regional camp last July, is a team captain and plays the position of linebacker and safety. In addition to seven tackles and a very big hit that caught the attention of ESPN3, he also intercepted a pass and ran it back 78 yards for a touchdown.
“It was a great experience playing against Mexico and building relationships with other top players in the country, and also college coaches,” said Borders.
And he is in good company. Current NFL players like Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Winston, Rams running back Todd Gurley, and Packers wide receiver Ty Montgomery also got their start on the US National Team.
Congratulations, Eagle! We can’t wait to see what you do next.
