ESD fourth grader Arya Ajith spent her weekend competing in the 2017 Fall Tournament of the DFW Speech Competition, held by the Veritas Forensics Association of SMU. The competition was held at SMU's campus for students aged 9-18, with many categories available to compete in.
Out of 200 students competing in the Youth category, Arya took home the top prize of first place Junior Informative Speaker Series where she spoke about Malala Yousafzai. She also won the Best Youth Orator Award and earned second place in the Gavel Club competition.
"Arya has managed to do all the prep during her library hours all on her own," said her father, AJ Kumaran. "The coaching and inspiration at ESD makes a huge difference."
Arya is part of the DFW Speech and Debate Club, an organization for young students interested in speech and debate that provides competition, training, coaching, and summer camps at all levels. Her hard work with her club has clearly paid off with her three big wins at the competition this past weekend! Congratulations, Eagle!
