Film Students Compete at the All-American High School Film Festival
Posted 10/12/2017 12:05PM

Last week, nine Upper School film students made the journey north for a week-long competition in New York City. The All-American High School Film Festival (AAHSFF), the nation's largest film festival, extends an invitation to schools they believe qualify to participate. ESD was one of only 27 teams invited to contribute to this prestigious event.

Each team is tasked with shooting and editing a film in three days, which is no easy feat! The students all had specific jobs on the set, such as screenwriter, director, actor, editor, or cinematographer. Anastasia Sotiropoulos '20 and Ellery Marshall '18, the screenwriter and director respectively, worked hard during the weeks leading up to the film festival on writing the script. Teams were given a prompt for their script, and this year's was "The Last..." Once the script was finalized, it was time to get to work filming. In addition to Anastasia and Ellery, Brooks Butler '20, Chloe Williams '19, Chris Hargrave '20, Gerrit Parker '20, Grace Boyd '20, Lilly French '19, and Sam Curtis '21.

All of their hard work, from running all over New York City filming to the scramble to finish editing by the tight deadline, paid off when our students were able to see their finished comedy screen at the AMC in Times Square. The film will screen again at ESD's own Film Festival coming in January.
