ESD Reveals Historic Announcements at Annual Fiesta Celebration
Posted 09/28/2017 02:00PM

At ESD’s all-school celebration on Friday, September 22, and in front of a crowd of more than 2,000, Head of School Meredyth M. Cole announced a commitment of $15,000,000 by the Perot Family for the building of an innovative Lower School facility on the Merrell Road Campus. This is the largest gift made to ESD since its founding in 1974. Cole also announced a $1,500,000 endowment commitment by Lisa and Kenny Troutt to support ESD's Troutt Fields so that programs and students may continue to flourish, and ESD’s first-ever $250,000 Annual Fund “Above and Beyond” challenge grant from an anonymous donor.

"For the past several years, the Board of Directors and school leadership have focused on strategic planning and implementing a comprehensive campaign to address the School’s highest priorities and needs,” Donald J. Carty, Chair of the ESD Board of Directors, said. “We have one goal - provide the resources required to honor our Founding Tenets and Mission to prepare our students for lives of intellectual discovery, integrity, and purpose.”

The Campaign for The Episcopal School of Dallas is the result of a well-researched, long range strategic plan that brings ESD’s shared vision of igniting lives of purpose to life. The campaign is built upon three priorities: uniting ESD’s community on one campus by building a best-in-class Lower School on the Merrell Road Campus; sustaining ESD’s faculty, students, signature programs, and facilities through an increased endowment; and affirming today’s student experience through the operationally-imperative Annual Fund.

"There is a time in the history of every great school when vision, leadership, and generosity align to transform an institution,“ Suzanne Perot McGee, who is also the campaign’s co-chair, said Friday night. “That time is now for ESD. Our fundraising is off to a great start but we will not or reach our goal without all of you.”

Campaign co-chair Nita Prothro Clark expressed the School’s collective gratitude that $44,300,000 of the $75,000,000 of ESD’s largest campaign had already been raised. She said, “Here is your call to action: come to upcoming info sessions about the campaign. ESD’s ‘Defining Decade’ isn’t about a dollar amount, it’s a movement.  Let’s take this giant step forward together."

"The world needs ESD graduates who are well prepared to lead with intelligence, faith, and character, and we are fortunate to have an amazing team of leaders and supporters,” Meredyth Cole said. “They each deserve special recognition for their incredible efforts to ensure our gifted faculty and staff have the resources required to ignite lives of purpose for our students and graduates. We are grateful to recognize these three leadership level commitments that have set the tone for our campaign."

One hundred percent of ESD’s teachers (173) and Alumni Association Board have made a gift to the 2017-18 Annual Fund in support of ESD students, the ESD Experience, and the campaign. Many teachers and alumni elected to participate in the Annual Fund “Above and Beyond” Challenge. Please join our faculty and alumni board by making your gift to the Annual Fund at

Additional endowment and Lower School gift announcements are forthcoming, including support from ESD alumni, grandparents, and parents who wish to ensure the ESD experience continues.

All members of the ESD community are invited to attend upcoming information sessions that will outline the priorities and timeline. The first event is October 12 at the Lower School. More information can be found at
