Students Julia Beckel ’18 and Amanda Warren ’18, rising seniors who participated in the ESD WORX Internship program this summer, recently had the opportunity to speak with an alum about their interest in the broadcast journalism industry.
Chloe Melas ’04, who now works as an entertainment reporter for CNN, spoke with the girls via Skype and gave them advice and insight that will carry them through their senior year and beyond. Melas was impressed that the two students had already completed an internship before their senior year of high school, something that isn’t necessarily common among high school students. They then had the opportunity to explain how the ESD WORX Internship Program puts students ahead of the game because of their ability to work in their interested fields firsthand before even entering college.
The girls were placed with the ESD Communication Department for their WORX internship after they both listed broadcast and journalism as two areas of interest—something that Melas is very familiar with considering her background as a reporter, both on and off the air. She offered words of wisdom that will help them navigate the broadcast journalism industry both in college and in the real world.
A big thank you to Chloe Melas for taking time to speak with students at her alma mater! It was a great experience for students looking to follow the same industry path.
