This summer, ESD had 13 Upper School students participate in the global service program Students Shoulder to Shoulder: Michael Bagley ’21, Lily Baughman ’20 (pictured right), Eleanor Beck ’21, Jack Beck ’21, Gillian Campbell ’18, Sriya Dodda ’19 (pictured below), Niko Harapanahelli ’20, Stephen Matthys ’21, Tarushi Mittal ’18, Rachel Morrow ’20, Biz Newsom ’20 (pictured right), Abby Ragan ’20, and Emma Sucato ’21.
Their service trips took them to communities both domestic and abroad, ranging from locations like New Orleans, Pine Ridge, and Detroit, to Cambodia, Tibet, and Nepal. Students Shoulder to Shoulder allows high school students to learn first-hand about different cultures and communities, while partnering with local organizations to make an impact on the community they are serving.
Many of the trips, require that the students live with host families, which truly immerses them in the culture for the duration of their stay. Each trip location also kept a travel journal, some of which feature the writing of many of our ESD students! You can access this summer’s travel journals by clicking here.
It’s always encouraging to see students representing our Founding Tenet of Service to Others, both at home and away. Well done, Eagles!
