This summer, Liam Nickell ’19 will be trading Texas for the West Coast. Instead of heading to the beach, however, Nickell will be taking college courses at Stanford University in economics and computer programming and living on the college campus.
After reviewing standardized test scores, Stanford invited Nickell to apply for the opportunity. The application process was rigorous, and included submitting not only further standardized test scores, but also his transcript, essays, and descriptions of his extracurricular activities. A couple months later, the prestigious university had accepted his application and extended the invitation for Nickell to take some of their class courses.
“I've lived on the Stanford campus before, so I knew how amazing Stanford is and what a great opportunity it would be,” he said.
But Nickell’s college-level coursework won’t end when he returns from California this summer. He has also been accepted to study at the University of North Texas in the Texas Academy of Math and Science for the remainder of his high school career, where he will be able to satisfy his high school requirements while earning college credit.
Congratulations, Liam and good luck this summer!
