Middle School Programs
Middle School programs are designed for campers entering fifth through eighth grade.

Join us for a week of nothing but boy fun! Come and hang out with ESD's Mike Schneider (the world’s greatest handball player) to play sports and games on the Merrell Road campus. We play tons of sports and games, and even make up new ones! Work up a sweat then cool off on the water slide. It is pure fun at its best! Campers need to bring a lunch, bathing suit, and towel.

Learn how to be a safe, responsible, and great babysitter. Students will not only learn the ins and outs of babysitting, but also get certified in CPR and First Aid. The course is taught by instructors from "It's Breathtaking". This is a one day class.

Join Albert Najera, ESD's varsity baseball coach, for 3 days of skills and drills using our fantastic baseball facility. It's a great camp for players who want to improve their all-around skill level! Please bring a glove, cleats, and a bat if you have one. All pre-enrolled campers will receive a camp shirt. Join ESD's three-time SPC champion coach, Corey Henderson, and his strong staff for their 10th annual camp. Prepare yourself for a fun-filled week of basketball! This camp is designed to give outstanding basketball instruction and will provide the basic fundamentals, excellent lectures, 1-on-1 and 5-on-5 games. This camp will also emphasize sportsmanship and character. Older campers will be introduced to more advanced concepts. Campers need indoor basketball shoes and should bring a lunch. Week 3 | Boys, Entering Grades 3 - 8 | 9:00 a.m. - 2:00 p.m. | $265
Boys of Summer Baseball Camp provides an excellent opportunity for kids in grades 3-8 to be instructed in the fundamentals of the game. Campers will learn the fundamentals of throwing/pitching, catching, hitting, and base running, as well as more position-specific skills. Campers will also enjoy the competitive games that will be played during the camp. We take pride in developing campers to their fullest potential and aim to provide a positive, upbeat experience, that promotes competition, repetition, self-esteem, self-discipline, teamwork, and, most importantly, FUN! Campers need to bring a lunch and a water bottle.

Fastforward Kids is merging the best in Lego bricks and coding with the wonder of building. Build and Boost makes coding and building a great activity. So, what will you build and boost? Learning to code with Build and Boost gives children the opportunity to use a physical problem-solving tool in their coding exercises. Their code comes to life in ways they can see, hear, touch, and even chase across the room. Through real-life STEM challenges and engaging physical and digital creations, this camp encourages children to develop 21st century skills through coding as they program solutions in a real-world context. Make new friends, build creative projects, code it, bring it to life and embrace what is soon to be one of the fastest growing technological career fields. This camp is taught by an instructor from Fast Forward Kids.

Mod My Mini Mansion™ Campers will dream up and design their very own futuristic smart home filled with gadgets, LED’s, technology and innovation! Campers will make their own take-home mini mansions and explore renewable sources to power up their eco smart homes, discover the Internet of Things and how smart devices are connected and controlled and change letters into numbers using binary code to create a message.
Robotic Pet Vet™ Animal shelters are reporting that malfunctioning robotic dogs have been popping up all over town! Throughout this module, campers diagnose puppy problems and design and build dog parks as they hammer out ideas for the best dog park attraction. Campers will Use tools to take apart robotic dogs and compare their inner mechanics to the anatomy and physiology of a real dog, analyze simple machines and circuits used to make the dog move, bark and light up and customize their own robotic dog to take home!
Optibot™ Campers will launch into the future with their own Optibot – a small self-driving bot that senses changes in light. Exploring the technology behind transportation, children will design the ultimate futuristic vehicle that might one day be reality! Campers will design tracks for their bots to follow while exploring different modes of transportation, explore impact sensors using a small-scale crash test dummy and discover how sensors are used in vehicles and personalize their own line tracing robot to take home!
Stick To It™ Campers will invent something new every day as they explore what it is like to be a physicist, engineer and entrepreneur. Your young innovator will invent, make and craft solutions to real-world challenges by building their own prototypes and discovering that anything is possible. Campers will make their own dancing dinosaur using a mechanical gear box in the “Dance to Your Own Beat” challenge, build a plush cupcake catapult in the “It Will Be a Piece of Cake” challenge and explore chemistry, non-Newtonian fluids and magnetism as they investigate magnetic slime.

Calling all muggles for Challenge Island® Wonderful World of Wizardry Camp! Serve the community during a week of volunteering at various agencies and earn community service hours. Projects include making meals for food insecure kids at Hunger Busters, packing school supplies at Community Partners of Dallas, and reading with children at Wesley Rankin community Center. Week 8 | Ages 5 - 12 | 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. | $200
A camp filled with all the things every youth needs and wants to “create” the perfect summer. Campers get to combine the best of five different camps offered by Fast Forward Kids. Our “creative” staff provides the instruction and all the materials for everyone to complete a day full of projects. Your child will embark on a day creating projects with Lego, learning the art of survival with survival tactics, theater arts, music, and art projects and techniques. Children will benefit by promoting self-esteem, motivation, aesthetic awareness, cultural exposure, creativity, as well as social harmony and appreciation of diversity. CR8 helps students to see what they look at, hear what they listen to, and feel what they touch. The focus of this creative camp is to express feelings through imaginative, innovative and original arts and skills. This camp is taught by an instructor from Fast Forward Kids.

Drone Racing is filled with pure action as students enjoy one of the world’s fastest
growing sports, Drone Racing. Campers will first learn about the basic safety of drone flying and the history behind drone racing as a sport. From there, campers will progress through various skill challenges and learn how to perform various exercises and maneuvers to become familiar with the drone’s speed and agility. Flight squads post up against one another in friendly competition when they race themselves and the clock. Students first maneuver the drone through creative obstacle courses before taking on the challenge of flying for speed. Participants contribute fully in this program as they create the design and help build the obstacle course in preparation for the last day’s final activities and competition. All campers go home with interactive workbooks and plenty of Drobots Company keepsakes and trinkets so the memories last long beyond the summer. Week 10 | Ages 10 - 14 | 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. | $350
It’s all about drone missions as campers will learn the basics of drone technology and safety before taking to the air to fly and code the drones through an abundance of missions. Throughout the week, instructors will pose various challenges that the campers must solve using drones. Missions include: Connect 4, Drone Basketball, King Kong, International Space Station Drone Docking, Harry the Hiker, and more. Students work all week long to prepare for the most enjoyable part of the week: the Ultimate Drone Games where students collaborate, strategize, and create their own drone missions and then compete against one another. Participants will use the SWIFT programming language to accomplish many of these missions. All campers go home with interactive workbooks and plenty of Drobots Company keepsakes and trinkets so the memories last long beyond the summer. Einstein by Design’s Flight and Aerial Photography Workshop will involve completion of two main projects that involve flight. In the first half of the workshop, you will build rockets out of paper and launch them outdoors with our compressed air rocket launching pad. You will test different wings, nose cones, and rocket bodies to examine the engineering factors that determine how high a rocket will launch. In the second half of this workshop, you will build a rig to take aerial photography of nearby surroundings, and then create a digital storybook relating your experiences to share with your family and community. You will also be able to make your own camera, and explore geometric optics concepts in physics through photography. Campers need to bring a lunch.
Week 7 | Entering Grades 4 - 8 | 9:00 a. m. - 3:00 p. m. | $350
This camp for beginning and advanced students alike will cover physics concepts related to car design, including aspects of aerodynamics, brakes, tires, and steering. Students will get a look into the design and optimization of various vehicle subsystems through an understanding of related physics concepts. Kids have heard of driver-less cars, but do they know how the automobiles are programmed? We explore machine learning design and programming, along with Bluetooth technology to create a remote control car each student will design and take home at the end of the week. Campers need to bring a lunch.
Week 6 | Entering Grades 4 - 8 | 9:00 a. m. - 3:00 p. m. | $280
In this week-long camp, fashion, technology, and textile skills collide in a Project Runway meets Hackathon extravaganza. This intensive and innovative program for youth combines the latest fashion industry-specific information and technology with traditional textile craft making to encourage a well-rounded camp experience. Participants will experience full days of project-based learning in textile construction techniques, draping, illustration, knitting, dyeing, computer-aided design, and textile engineering. Students apply cross-discipline craftsmanship and put on an end-of-camp fashion show to exhibit their new creations. Campers need to bring a lunch.
Week 8 | Ages 8 - 12 | 9:00 - 11:00 a.m. | $135
Young girls graduate from playing dress up to creating their own designs! They will express themselves with their own fashion sense by following the same design principles used by professionals. This includes basic sketching techniques, coordination colors for the best effect and mixing textures and patterns for perception and scale. Cultural fashion history will be applied to all the girl’s individual style and portfolio. Designs come to life with beautifully patterned fabric, ribbons, sequins, jewels, and oodles of other embellishments. Collaborative “design team” challenges make this hands-on, minds-on adventure into the world of design very exciting. For your child’s safety, no sewing is practiced in this class. This camp is taught by an instructor from Fast Forward Kids.
Week 3 | Ages 6 - 10 | 9:00 - 11:00 a. m. | $150
Putting the fun in track and field! This camp combines the three foundations of track and field (running, jumping and throwing) into an energizing learning experience designed to excite young boys and girls through engagement in physical activity. This dynamic camp will consist of twenty different learning stations throughout the week to create variety while teaching the children life-long skills that are beneficial to their athletic development. Each station will include activities that are challenging yet non-competitive, and range from dynamic warm-up with balance and coordination, running form technique, standing broad jump, softball throw and one-legged hop. The week culminates with an integration of the weekly activities into a mini track meet combining all skill activities of the camp. This camp is taught by Kidokinetics coaches.

The First Tee DRIVE Golf program combines learning basic golf and technique utilizing an innovative curriculum developed by The First Tee Golf Association. The program was created in association with the PGA, LPGA, Champions Tour and Masters Association. The curriculum focuses on the four basic shots of golf: putting, chipping, pitching and the full swing. Each skill is reinforced with fun games and activities which vary each day. Equipment is specifically designed for young children, with oversized club faces, color coded grips, and target oriented training tools and alignment markings. Each activity empowers young people to explore their abilities and develop life-enhancing values along the way. Perfect for the beginner golfer. This camp is taught by Kidokinetics coaches.

Join ESD's varsity volleyball coach, Laura Gomez, and her highly trained staff, for three days of volleyball. This camp will provide girls entering grades 4-8 with basic skill development including serving, passing, hitting, setting and blocking. Participants need indoor athletic shoes with non-marking soles, kneepads, and a water bottle. Volleyballs will be provided. All pre-enrolled campers will receive a camp shirt. This is a three-day camp (Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday).

Join ESD's Marlene Rizo for a week of culinary magic! This camp offers a fun and exciting activities that will not only teach your child healthy eating habits but will also help further develop their fine and gross motor skills through various hands on culinary activities. Students will learn how to make healthy snacks, and develop healthy eating habits. They will be introduced to the science of eating and energy conversion, how we categorize food into macronutrients and why some food is better for our bodies than others. Campers need to bring a lunch.

Junior Engineers will bring your child into a creative and engineering environment that will develop him/her into a junior engineer! Hands-on construction is learned and executed with our special and unique Lego Engineering kits not found in stores. With our certified educator and detailed technical plans,; your child will learn how to build robots, race cars, four-by-four trucks, cranes, pulleys, levers and much more. Your child will participate in an energized week of discovery, motivated by creativity, fun and success. The junior engineer will expand his/her knowledge in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) in an exploratory, cooperative environment. This camp is taught by an instructor from Fast Forward Kids.
Week 9 | Ages 6 - 12 | 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. | $225
Dr. Nick Chamberlain and his team of expert instructors will lead students through a fun-packed program of karate, martial arts, and self-defense. This exciting camp will safely introduce students to the martial arts, as well as polish and expand the skills of those with previous experience. Activities cover all the important areas of karate including kicking, striking and blocking drills, self-defense techniques with a partner, personal safety tips, wrestling and ground work, Brazilian jiu-jitsu, the history of martial arts, the appropriate use of new skills and much more! If your son or daughter has wanted to try karate and the martial arts, then this is the perfect opportunity for him or her to train safely with high-ranking, experienced instructors. Tuition includes the uniform and belt. Certificates of completion will be awarded on the last day of camp.

This is a course for Middle School students who wish to improve their keyboarding skills. While working to increase speed and accuracy, students will learn correct finger placement, posture, and movement.

Sportkinetics is pleased to have the opportunity to partner with US Lacrosse to introduce this fun and exciting sport to young boys and girls. Lacrosse is the nation’s fastest growing sport and gaining popularity for all ages. Our camp is designed to introduce and develop the tactical, technical, and cooperative skills needed to enjoy success combined with an enthusiastic approach to inspire a continuation of participation in the sport. This is a non-competitive camp designed to build self-confidence and teamwork in a fitness oriented setting. All equipment is designed for learning and provided for each child. This camp is taught by Kidokinetics coaches.

Little Medical School encourages children to role play and explore the exciting world of medicine. Using interactive demonstrations, crafts and games, kids learn how the body works and how to use instruments that real doctors use. Children will learn how the heart and lungs function. They will know the importance of proper first aid care, learn about the brain and spine, about how the digestive system works and discuss the importance of medicine safety. They will learn how to scrub in for surgery and how to suture and tie surgical knots. Children will be able to show and name the major bones in the body, and much, much more! Little Medical School Summer Camp is a fun and hands on class. Each child will receive a diploma as a graduate of Little Medical School upon completion of the course. Each camper will take Home a stethoscope, first aid kit, brain and spine model, organ and skeleton sticker sets, bone and eye model and much more!
Week 9 | Ages 6 - 12 | 12:30 - 3:30 p. m. | $300
Little Veterinarian School encourages elementary school children to role play and explore the exciting world of veterinarians. Using interactive demonstrations, crafts and games, kids learn how to take care of a pet and use instruments that real veterinarians use. Children will learn how to complete an assessment of a dog and will know the importance of proper care and nutrition to keep dogs healthy. They will know what to do if a dog gets hurt and how to care for them, learn safety rules for being around animals and discuss what radiographs are and what the light and dark shades are on a radiograph. They will learn about pesky parasites and how to treat animals. Little Veterinarian School Summer Camp is a fun and hands on class. Each child will receive a diploma as a graduate of Little Veterinarian School upon completion of the curse. Each camper will take home a stuffed dog, dog bone cookie cutter, dog bowl and much more!!

Have you ever wanted to try the potter's wheel? Now is the time! Spend a week with ESD's Barbara Brault making pots on the potter's wheel. Students will spend the first three days of camp making pots on the wheel, and then glazing their work in the final two days. Old clothes are a must!

This is a five-day workshop focusing each day on one or two concepts. MT5 will work on multiplication, fact review, division, decimals, fractions, and place value. The focus is a review of concepts in preparation for the new school year. We will play some games, use white boards, and explore ways to use the computer to improve the understanding of these concepts. The course is designed for students who have encountered difficulties in math during the school year. Come join the fun!

This is a five-day workshop focusing each day on one or two concepts. MT6 will work on decimals, fractions, ratios, probability, beginning algebra, area, perimeter, and volume. The focus is a review of concepts in preparation for the new school year. We will play some games, use white boards, and explore ways students could use computer programs to improve their understanding of these concepts. The course is designed for students who have encountered difficulties in math during the school year. Come ready to have some fun, and learn some new strategies!

This is a five-day workshop that will focus on several concepts each day. MT7 will work on decimals, fractions, decimal/ fraction/percent conversions, mental math, absolute value, and beginning algebra. The class will review concepts in preparation for the new school year, and the course is designed for students who have encountered difficulties in math during the previous school year.
Week 10 | Grade 8 | 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. | $175
This is a five-day workshop that will focus on several concepts each day. MT8 will work on multi-step equations, the distributive property, exponents, absolute value, and polynomials. The class will review concepts in preparation for Algebra Foundations and Algebra I, and the course is designed for students who have encountered difficulties in math during the previous school year.

Is your child missing out on all the fun activities from PE class? Are you ready to get him or her up and moving? This is the camp for you! Join ESD’s Dena Geier for a week playing all the PE favorites - kickball, dodge ball, knock out - as well as many more exciting games and activities. Campers need to bring a lunch, bathing suit, and towel.

Does your child need to improve his or her manners while still having fun? Then send him or her to a Mrs. McVeigh's Manners camp. This unique and original curriculum will cover traditional topics such as meeting and greeting, appearance, setting the table, table manners, restaurant manners, and non-traditional behaviors such as how to stop a bully. Kids love the role-playing, worksheets, and games! See why hundreds of parents have been so delighted with how much their children retain with the Mrs. McVeigh's Manners program! Children need to bring a lunch, bottle of water, and disposable napkin each day.

Learn the fine art of multimedia production. Radio, television, and multimedia production basics are introduced. Campers will learn how to write, produce, edit and polish multimedia commercial productions fit for professional distribution. Multimedia production will introduce campers to the world of production and all that it encompasses in the entertainment industry. This camp is taught by an instructor from Fast Forward Kids. Sign of release is required for recording purposes. Campers will be recording audio and video and will present at end of the week.

Through creative musical play; young singers, actors, and dancers build the beginning skills in musical theater. Camp days are filled with singing, voice, dance, drama, and character development, all in preparation for a special performance at the end of camp!

A fun, active program designed to create a flag football experience for young boys and girls while developing fundamental fitness skills. Flag football is becoming one of the fastest growing sports activities in the U.S. with leagues being introduced in all communities. Our program is designed to introduce the basic skills in an environment which minimizes contact and stresses areas of strategy, coordination, agility, mobility, flexibility and speed. While focusing on the skill development our coaches assist the children in learning key strategy through teamwork and communications. Each day promises to deliver fun, activity based exercise and an appreciation for the sport of flag football. This camp is taught by Kidokinetics coaches.

There’s an artist in everyone. During this weeklong class, we will recreate some of the masterworks from the greats...Matisse, Degas, Laroche, Klee, Pollock, Cassett. Students will learn about a different master, build creative confidence and take home a completed acrylic painting each day. New artists are introduced so returning students will be introduced to new paintings each camp. Instructor is Melanie Brannan, fine artist and teacher.

It has been said that the best camera is the one that you have with you! In this workshop you will learn how to properly light, pose and shoot digital photographs like a pro. Digital SLR cameras are welcome, but the major focus will be to help improve your smartphone photography and create final images that will dazzle your friends and relatives with the camera you have in your pocket. The major hands-on topics and shooting techniques we will discuss include:
Exposure - Composition - Posing
White Balance - Rule of Thirds - HDR Photography
ISO - Direct Lighting - Background Lighting and Creativity
Aperture - Reflective Lighting - Shooting Silhouettes
Shutter Speed - Contrast - Dragging the Shutter
We will review and discuss many of the best mobile apps available for the iPhone and Android platforms to help you transform your images into beautiful works of art. We will shoot on location on the school property as a group, and have a photo judging contest the last day of class.

Join head varsity coach Mark Gardner as he shares his 31st year of limitless enthusiasm on the soccer fields. The camp will provide individual challenges for every player. Daily drills, and competitions will increase each camper's knowledge, awareness, and skills. Meet in the Hart Gymnasium rain or shine! Campers need indoor and outdoor shoes, shin guards, a water bottle and a lunch. All pre-enrolled campers will receive a camp shirt.
Weeks 1 and 3 | Ages 10 - 17 | 9:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. | $225
These camps are for competitive female soccer players, ages 10-17, who are interested in soccer and want to improve their skills and understanding of the sport. The camps are challenging and fun! Come each day prepared to have a blast while honing your soccer skills in a friendly, positive environment, utilizing the perfect grass fields and excellent facilities at ESD. The camps are run by Mike Renshaw, ESD's varsity women's soccer coach. Other camp staff includes former ESD varsity players and current ESD girl's middle and upper school soccer coaches.

Topics include organization, learning styles, time management, stress management, note taking, concentration, memory, test preparation, and more. This is a three-day class (Wednesday, Thursday and Friday).

Your voice deserves to be heard! Students will learn the art of persuasion through a range of speech and debate styles such as Lincoln Douglas debate, Public Forum, and extemporaneous speaking. Anyone interested in public speaking, argumentation, current events, or writing would enjoy this camp. This session will also prepare interested students for competing in tournaments throughout the school year. Students will have fun while developing and fine-tuning their critical thinking and presentation skills!

Do you love music and love to dance? Our teachers will have you dancin’ to the Tippi Toes® beat in no time! Students at Hip Hop Camp will learn kid-friendly choreography to upbeat, age-appropriate music, and they will work on various crafts and learn fun movement games throughout the week. Tippi Toes® Hip Hop Camp is sure to be an awesome time for your dancer! Parents are invited to a mini-performance on the last day of camp. Attire: Shorts or leggings and a t-shirt, tank top or leotard with tennis shoes or jazz shoes works best! Campers need to bring a lunch.

This camp is an official USTA program in the category of Under 10 Tennis. All equipment is provided by USTA Texas. The goals for students in the program are simple: To build early self-confidence in the game of tennis - one of the few life time sports for girls and boys. The program includes the introduction of fun games which reinforce the health benefits of exercise in a way that is interesting and fun. This camp provides skill development in the areas agility, coordination, stamina, gross motor, fine motor and self-confidence. Designed to teach the basic skills of the game there is an equal focus on having fun! Each day we introduce a new skill, develop the skill with progressive drills and then apply the skill with games and fitness activities. This camp is taught by Kidokinetics coaches.
