As part of the Academic Service Program, many of ESD’s Spanish V students partner with Foster Elementary to strengthen their secondary language skills. The “Conversation Club” gives students the opportunity to practice their Spanish and get to know local elementary students; one ESD student, however, has gone above and beyond conversation skills.
Inspired by the students she met through the program last semester, Olivia Abbott ’21 created a fundraiser to provide school supplies and backpacks for students at the school. She collected funds and items throughout the summer and last week, delivered 30 backpacks full of a year’s worth of school supplies.
After visiting Foster Elementary with Conversation Club, Olivia met with ESD faculty; United to Learn, a Dallas-based organization focused on closing the opportunity gap in education; and Foster staff to coordinate the collection.
We are so proud of this Eagle for her initiative in making our Dallas community better!
