Art Around Campus: Math Mural
Staff

The Art Around Campus Committee has been working for the past couple of years to bring our students some exterior artwork that both inspires and celebrates their studies, as well as connects our community to the local Dallas art scene. Earlier this month, they collaborated with the Mathematics Department to bring local artist and current ESD parent Chris Bingham to campus.

‘Math Mural,’ by Chris Bingham (& Hudson), 2021. 8’ x 9ft. Displayed on the exterior of the Gail B. Cook and Dan W. Cook, III. Math-Science-Computer Building

Chris Bingham studied graphic design, drawing, and painting, earning a B.F.A from the University of Texas at Arlington. He has been a part of numerous selected group exhibitions, solo shows, and selected juried exhibitions such as the annual Craighead Green ‘New Texas Talent,' show, also Chris has been a two-time finalist in the Hunting Art Prize. More importantly, he has used his art to tell stories of North Texas Asylum Seekers, helping bright light to difficult tales that often go unheard.

His most amazing works of art are his two boys, who also happen to be ESD Eagles! Hudson (grade 3), Max (kindergarten), along with the boys’ mom and Chris' wife Rachael (who teaches First Grade in the lower school), make one wonderful ESD family!

Hudson was Chris’ right-hand man on Saturday when the mural went up. Chris said "I had the pleasure of painting a mural with my oldest son today. He’s 9 and loved every minute of the process. I wanted to give him a sense of ownership since the mural happens to be on his school campus. How cool is it that he gets to tell his friends and teachers that he had a hand in creating something for the school?!”

Go Eagles!
