Back in 2019, ESD formed CERT, a Community Emergency Response Team, designed to serve as backup support for trained emergency personnel and assist ESD's Campus Security Team in both scheduled on-campus events and emergencies. Comprised of both students and teachers, all six student members are graduating this year!
Although COVID limited much of their anticipated involvement over the last school year, these students participated in national CERT training classes, completed field training, and trained with ESD's Campus Security Team. They assisted in every drill on campus and created an emergency planning presentation for faculty and staff to help all community members prepare for emergencies. "While we had other people who wanted to join last year, COVID hit and they were never able to attend training and become members," said ESD's CERT leader and Upper School Engineering Teacher Barton Burnett. "We're sad that the only students currently trained in CERT will be graduating, but we look forward to a new team with brand new members next year."
Last week, these students received a certificate for their work and commemorating their involvement in ESD's inaugural CERT group. Congratulations to these Eagles:
