Please welcome Gregg Bennis as ESD's next program leader and head varsity coach for baseball. A full-time member of our faculty and staff, he will also serve as an Upper School Proctor.
Coach Bennis comes to ESD by way of Florida. Over the past eight years, he has led baseball programs at the collegiate and high school levels, most recently as head coach at Broward College in Davie, FL. During his time in the collegiate ranks, Gregg has also served as an assistant coach at Nova Southeastern University and Indian River State College, and been a part of a conference championship and a DII National Championship. While at West Broward High School, Gregg was named Coach of the Year after winning the school’s first District title. He has helped dozens of players realize their dreams of playing Division I and professional baseball.
Gregg was a multi-positional player for Broward College and Tallahassee Community College before closing out his college career competing at the Division I level for Florida Atlantic University, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies. While at FAU, the Owls won two Sun Belt Conference championships with Gregg contributing on the mound and in the outfield.
Coach Bennis takes over the program from Coach Albert Najera, who led ESD baseball for the past five seasons.
"Gregg’s focus on purpose and process will be integral to the continued development of our baseball program,” stated Dan Gill, Director of Athletics. “His enthusiasm and passion for the sport are infectious, along with his firm understanding of the importance of instilling discipline, trust and commitment made him the right candidate to lead our program."
