"Deep In the Heart of Texas" Homecoming Week a Success!
Staff

ESD’s homecoming celebration was a weekend to remember for all involved. Throughout the week, students and faculty across all divisions showed their Eagle pride with spirit dress days. From generations dress and hat days to crazy socks and Texas day, Student Council did an amazing job getting our Eagles in the Homecoming spirit!

"This year it was important to the students that we bring back school spirit and make sure that everyone had a lot of fun since they missed out on so much last year," said Upper School Student Council Sponsor Megan Schroeder '09. "Student Council did an excellent job executing another successful homecoming week."

The celebrations kicked off on Friday morning with the second all-school pep rally held in the Gene & Jerry Jones Family Stadium. There were relay races, an impressive cheerleading performance, and varsity football and cheer led students into the stadium.

Early in the week, Head of School Dave Baad delivered a special homily on the importance of coming home, regardless of how much time has passed. Friday night's festivities brought over 125 alumni back to the nest for our Alumni Homecoming Tailgate, as well as individual class reunions throughout the weekend.

Then, for the Homecoming game, first through fourth grade Eagles formed the traditional football tunnel in our first ever "Lower School Eagle Night." Halftime saw an electric performance from ESD’s middle school, JV and varsity cheerleaders, as well as the presentation of the Homecoming court. The night concluded with a 48-16 win over St. John's (Houston).

The annual Homecoming dance took place the next evening on Saturday, October 23, where the Homecoming King and Queen were crowned. This year’s King and Queen, selected from a court of ten senior students, are James Click and Finley Nelson! Members of the Homecoming Court are nominated by upper school students after meeting academic, community involvement, and character guidelines. Congratulations to all nominees: Mary Grace Altizer, Nia Bethea, Kate Elliston, Reid Moorman, Dani Nisbet, Virginia Nussbaumer, Austin Page, and Kai Robinson.

Thank you to everyone who made Homecoming week a success!
