Artist Name: Sarah Cabrales
Grade Level: 11
About the Artist: "Sarah Cabrales is a dedicated student who has demonstrated an honest love and understanding for the Fine Arts. Sarah's work is dynamic, expressive and at the same time, it is enigmatic. Her influences are well studied and appear in her creations in clever narratives that make us think in a deeper way. Cabrales's abilities transcend the two-dimensional practices into fearless large-size sculptures making her a solid up-and-coming contemporary artist." - Juan Negroni, Upper School Studio Art Teacher
Course Level: AP Art and Inter Sculpture
How long have you been enrolled in arts courses? Since my freshman year. I’ve made sure to have at least a semester of both sculpture and art every year.
What was the inspiration for the work(s)?
This piece was originally inspired by the term “a late train”. I was raised to always keep an eye out for a play on words and that one had just hit me while I was painting. I knew that I wanted to do something with trains since I’d recently gained an interest in them. To connect the ghost, I like to think of life as a train with a series of stops. Each stop can represent an important stage of your life, but eventually, you’ll arrive at your final destination. How you treat the journey matters.
