Inspiration for the work?

The sixth-grade sculpture class studied organic forms and textures found in nature and used those elements to create stoneware sculptures. “I chose coral because I think coral is beautiful and would work well as a base. I wanted to make it look like it had little cracks and indents all over… I made viny things but kept them smooth, so it wasn't all the same.” Lily’s choice of color was a result of her research on life on the ocean floor.
