ESD Welcomes College Guidance Deans for Annual Panel
Katie Voss

Last night, ESD College Guidance hosted the annual Deans’ Panel Program for ESD parents and community members in the Bray Performance Hall. This is a rare opportunity for Upper School students and parents to hear from the Deans of Admission at three highly respected institutions. The Deans spoke about trends in college admission and the application process in general. They also answered student and parent questions about applying to college. Attendees heard from:

  • Sally Richmond, Vice President for Admissions and Financial Aid at Washington and Lee University
  • Miguel Wasielewski, Executive Director of Admissions at the University of Texas at Austin
  • John Young, Vice President for Enrollment and Dean of Admissions at Hobart and William Smith Colleges

"This is always such an informative evening with each school offering valuable insight," said Bonnie McCown, Associate Director of College Guidance. "To questions about preparing academically for a selective college, one of our panelists encouraged students to take the classes they are most interested in and find a college that values them for the choices they've made.”

The Deans Panel in its current form was started in 2013. The object was to bring in a variety of college speakers each year, so that students and parents can view the college admission process through their lens, and also make sure that they understand the scope and value of an ESD education by touring our facility, having discussions with faculty, and meeting our talented students. By demystifying the process in the panel discussion, we hope parents and students will be better able to get the most out of their college process.

Thanks for joining us, Eagle Families!
