Band

Band is a performance-based study of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments and corresponding music literature. These courses emphasize reading music, development of musicianship, and both solo and ensemble performance.

Students can begin taking band courses in middle school and are provided many opportunities to play their instruments beyond the classroom. Our students participate in group concerts, TPSMEA events, and in middle and upper school performance trips.

Learn more about our band offerings in our Curriculum Guide.

Students in band have the opportunity to play with classmates for friends and family at performances throughout the year.

ESD events like Symphony of Hope, pictured here, are enhanced by our own band students providing the musical accompaniments for the service.

An upper school student plays a saxophone in an make-shift outdoor classroom.

Students in seventh through twelfth grade got some fresh air spending a lot of time playing their instruments outdoors during the 2020-21 school year, safely distancing from other musicians.

They also hosted virtual band concerts for friends and family who were unable to see them perform in person. Click here to view the Fall 2020 Virtual Band Concert and the Spring 2021 Virtual Band Concert.

Participating in band means you are part of a team that depends on each individual to grow, learn, share and have fun with each other. The greatest joy is showcasing all the work with the audience.- Doug Jordan, Middle and Upper School Band Director
