For the first time in school history, the ESD Eagles 7-on-7 football team has qualified for the UIL Division II 7-on-7 State Championship to be held on the campus of Texas A&M University, July 19-20.
The State Qualfier was held in Wichita Falls on Sunday, June 3. Players included Thomas Fitts,
Jack Johnson, Chad Johnson, Kirbian Peters, Brock Anglin, Ryan Converse, Paul Cooke, Grant Matzen, Hunt Neurohr, Brock Neurohr, Jeff Patton, Nigel Naulls, TJ Jackson, Tommy McNamara, Clark Wilson, and Caleb Williams. ESD battled and defeated top 3A and 2A schools like Wichita Falls, Iowa Park, Eastland, and Boyd. In the championship game, ESD knocked off the number one seed, Boyd, by a score of 33-18.
"We need to be very proud of our ESD 7-on-7 football players," remarked Head Football Coach Clayton Sanders. "They battled through the heat, traveling, cramps, and fatigue. They chose to adapt and overcome the adversity, and come out on the other side as tournament champions and State Qualifiers. I am excited for ESD football, and for these players.
