Online Library Databases

ProQuest
ProQuest is an advanced research index of more than 2,000 full-text magazines and newspapers, including The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. Historical Newspapers offers full page and article images with complete coverage from 1851 to 2000.

JSTOR
JSTOR offers a high-quality, interdisciplinary archive to support scholarship and teaching. It includes archives of over one thousand leading academic journals across the humanities, social sciences, and sciences, as well as select monographs and other materials valuable for academic work. The entire corpus is full-text searchable, offers search term highlighting, includes high-quality images, and is interlinked by millions of citations and references.

Gale Group
Gale Group provides a large index of sixteen unique curriculum-focused periodical and reference databases for users of all ages. Especially good for literary research are Scribner’s Writers Series, Twayne Author Series, and Literature Resource Center. Kid’s Edition and Junior Edition are provided for younger researchers, and Informe is a Spanish language database. University journals are indexed in Expanded Academic.

SIRS
SIRS Researcher provides selected full-text articles exploring social, scientific, health, historic, economic, political and global issues from domestic and international publications. Features include Editor’s Top Pick, Spotlight of the Month, and American Model United Nations. SIRS Discoverer and Discoverer Web Find offers the same format of information for younger students.

EbscoHost 
A comprehensive site of over 30 subject-specific databases covering the entire curriculum.  Highlights include Literary Reference Center, NoveList, Science Reference Center, American and World History Reference Center, Business Source Complete, Medline, ERIC, and Academic Search Complete with articles from peer-reviewed journals.

eLibrary
E-Library is a user-friendly general reference database suitable for users of all skill levels. It features full-text magazines, newspapers, books, radio and television transcripts, maps, pictures, and web-links for further reference.

Encyclopedia Britannica Online
The world renowned encyclopedia online together with options to search Compton’s Encyclopedia and selected websites that complement your topic.

Enciclopedia Universal en Español
A resource for students learning Spanish, bilingual students, and native Spanish speakers.

Annals of American History Online
Provides year-by-year primary source documents of American history including speeches, writings, memoirs, poems, and interviews.

Milestone Documents in American History  
A primary source database whose coverage spans from 1763-2003 and is searchable by keyword. Included in the retrieved information is a timeline, questions for further study, related documents, and a bibliography as well as a copy of the original document.

Ancient and Medieval History Online.
Explores the pre-modern world with in-depth focus on Egypt, Mesopotamia, Greece, Rome, Africa, Europe, the Americas, and Asia.

World History - Modern Era
Within more than 15,000 primary and secondary sources, this database explores the evolution of modern Europe since the Renaissance; concurrent developments in Asia, Africa, and the Islamic world; the global impact of the Industrial Revolution; and the last 100 years of conflicts and international cooperation. An online version of the print journal with coverage of the U.S. Congress: status of bills, votes and amendments, backroom maneuverings, and more – with archives dating back to 1983.

CultureGrams
An interactive database for World and United States culture with links to a photo gallery, famous people, and recipes.

Rand McNally Classroom
A place for curriculum-relevant maps and articles about the world with interactive functionality.

World Data Analyst Online
A comparative collection of current and historical statistics on 217 countries. Users may create tables, charts, and even export the information to a spreadsheet for deeper analysis.

Webster's Third International Dictionary, Unabridged Online
A comprehensive database of words with search functionality allowing users to research the English language in a variety of ways.

Grolier
Grolier is a division of Scholastic. Discover the content connection- the definitive full integrated database collection and online research portal. Grolier is available for the Lower School students; contact librarian Bonnie Tollefson for username and password information.

TeachingBooks
TeachingBooks.net provides original, in-studio movies of authors and illustrators and a wealth of multimedia resources on K-12 books that generate enthusiasm for books and reading.
