Our student-athletes are back from the Winter SPC Tournament with some wins, triumphs, and personal records! Please see below for a recap of each sport, and for more information and photos you can visit the ESD Athletics Twitter account.
The girls basketball team defeated All Saints 36-10 in the consolation semifinals. Sydney Helbing ’17 with 9 points and Jay Browne ’19 with 8 led the team. ESD fought hard against Fort Worth Country Day and finished the game with just a 10-point deficit.
The boys basketball team played a solid SPC tournament, falling only to eventual champion Casady to snag the 5th place title. The Eagles were led by Keller Casey ’19 who finished with a team-leading 48 points for the three games they played. Saxon Thompson ’18 and Antonio Lapeyrolerie ’18 each had 36 while Ben Taber ’18 tallied 23 over the tournament.
The girls soccer team returned home with another championship under their belt, making this the fourth consecutive year that ESD girls soccer has taken home the first place honor. The team shut out Kinkaid 4-0, with goals from Gillian Campbell ’18, Ellis Miller ’17, and Emma Viquez ’19. The boys soccer team battled hard against both Kinkaid and St. Mark’s while down in Houston, but ultimately fell to St. Mark’s in a fierce 2-1 fight.
ESD swimmer Jackson Mechem ’19 achieved two personal records during his time at SPC. He finished his 100 Fly in 1:01.24 for his first personal record, and swan the 50 Freestyle in 24.69 for his second.
Rowen Brown ’18 took 3rd place at the SPC Wrestling Championships at 120 lbs and Christopher Talbot ’19 placed 4th at 138 lbs. James Strohmeyer ’20 went 1-2 at 195 lbs, and was a match away from placing.
