On behalf of the Board of Directors, it is with great enthusiasm we announce the appointment of Kimberly  A. MaGee as ESD’s Interim Head of School for the 2012-13 school year, effective immediately.

Kim MaGee’s qualifications are exceptional.  We have found an exceedingly impressive leader who is passionate about educating students, both academically and spiritually.  She is enthusiastic, collegial, and has a deep respect for ESD’s mission and Founding Tenets.  Kim will provide crucial direction during this year of transition, as the ESD community celebrates the long-term leadership of Father Swann and looks to the future with the search for our next permanent Head of School.

An experienced educator with a career spanning 40 years, Kim served for eleven years at the Bishop Strachan School in Toronto, Canada, first as their Vice Principal of Curriculum and later as Assistant Head of School before being named Head of School.  Founded in 1867, the Bishop Strachan School is Canada's oldest day and boarding school for girls, enrolling over 900 students.  Board members of Bishop Strachan have described Kim as a self-starter and excellent communicator, held in high regard by the faculty, students and parents.  She has also been described as an outstanding leader who always gives 100% to the job.

Prior to The Bishop Strachan School, Kim was a teacher in both the public and private co-educational school systems, from pre-kindergarten through twelfth grade, with the heaviest concentration in the subjects of language arts and mathematics.  She has held numerous educational leadership positions, including that of Literacy and Numeracy Consultant and Co-coordinator of the Masters of Teaching Program at the University of Toronto’s Ontario Institute for Students in Education.  She is a board member of the Canadian Accredited Independent Schools Board, serving on their Evaluation Committee and Standards Committee.  Additionally, Kim is an international presenter and consultant on educational change, strategic planning, assessment and evaluation, and effective instruction in the classroom.

Kim received her Liberal Arts degree from York University in Toronto and a Specialist degree in Junior Education from the University of Toronto.  She also piloted and taught a two-year Masters program at the University of Toronto.  Kim and her husband, Marv, reside in Orange County, California.  They have four grown children, one son and three daughters.

Kim is uniquely qualified to lead the school in all areas including strategic planning, academic performance, financial management, communications and development.  She is excited to work with the senior leadership team, our faculty and staff, and looks forward to getting to know the students, parents and alumni during her interim term.  She will be active and visible on both campuses, making this year a smooth and productive one for all of our community members, most especially our students.

There will be several opportunities for you to become acquainted with Kim in the next several weeks.  Please help us welcome Kim to the Episcopal School of Dallas.
